1. ¿QUIÉNES SON LOS MASAI?
Los masáis son un pueblo estimado en unas 830000 personas, que viven en Kenia meridional y en Tanzania septentrional. Hablan maa, que es una lengua nilótica oriental, si bien muchos de ellos son capaces de expresarse correctamente en suajili e inglés. La mayoría de los masáis mantienen su religión tradicional, aunque en los últimos años algunos se han convertido al cristianismo.
2. EXPLICA SUS FORMAS DE VIDA.
El pueblo masái es una tribu seminómada, que quiere decir que no viven en un solo lugar, sino que migran con sus casas y pertenencias en busca de alimento y tierra. Está formada por más de 350 000 personas que habitan en África; especialmente en Kenia y Tanzania. Actualmente, hay 5 clanes diferentes: los il-makesen, los il-molelian, los il-aiser, los il-taarrosero, y los il-ikumai. Se rigen por la salida y la puesta del Sol, y las estaciones.

3. VIVIENDA.
Los masáis viven en asentamientos llamados manyattas, círculos de chozas hechas de ramitas y rodeadas por empalizadas (”bomas”) para encerrar el ganado. Las chozas se construyen con unos ladrillos preparados a base de excrementos de animales, paja y barro a fin de impermeabilizarlos y darles resistencia. Las paredes interiores son alisadas y posteriormente ahumadas y suelen contar con diminutos tragaluces pero no ventanas.
4. PROBLEMÁTICA ACTUAL.
A causa de un primer contrato en 1904 y un segundo en 1911, las tierras masái en Kenia se redujeron en un 60 %, cuando los británicos los expulsaron para dar tierra a los ranchos de colonos. Posteriormente los recluyeron en los distritos que hoy son Kajiado y Narok. En los años 1940 los masái de Tanzania fueron desplazados de las tierras fértiles entre el Monte Meru y el Monte Kilimanjaro y de la mayoría de las tierras altas fértiles de Ngorongoro. Les arrebataron más tierra para crear reservas de caza y parques nacionales: Amboseli, Parque Nacional de Nairobi, Masái Mara, Samburu, Lago Nakuru y Tsavo en Kenia; Manyara, Ngorongoro, Tarangire y Serengeti en Tanzania.
